Ever Got Tired of Your Dirty Exhaust Tips Not Matching Your Shiny Ride?
In this guide, we’ll teach you how to clean your exhaust tips/tailpipes the right way.
Step 1: Identify Your Exhaust Tips
First, you need to determine what type of tailpipes you have. Many modern cars come with fake tailpipes, meaning no actual exhaust gases pass through them. Some are chrome, while others might be black or colored. Your cleaning method will depend on the material and design of your tailpipes.
Step 2: Cleaning The Exhaust Tips
If your tailpipes are functional, they’re probably covered in tougher dirt like soot and carbon deposits. Here’s how to tackle them:
- Spray the tailpipes with a tar remover and an APC (All-Purpose Cleaner), then rinse well.
- Apply an iron remover, let it work, then rinse again.
- Use wheel brushes to agitate the dirt. You decide how detailed you want to be—just cleaning the outer surface or going all in on every little crevice. Depending on how dirty they are, you might need to repeat these steps.
Now, adjust your cleaning method based on the type of tailpipe.
Chrome Tailpipes
- Use a metal polish (we prefer a non-abrasive one) with a microfiber towel to bring out the shine.
- If there’s stubborn dirt that won’t come off with a microfiber towel, grab a piece of aluminum foil, apply some metal polish to it, and gently agitate.
Black or Colored Tailpipes
- Do not use metal polish or aluminum foil, as these can damage the finish.
- Instead, clean them thoroughly and use a simple polish afterward.
- Avoid using special polish cones, as they can create holograms on black or colored tailpipes.
Step 3: Protecting Your Tailpipes
Now that your tailpipes are spotless, it’s time to protect them so they stay cleaner for longer.
We recommend using our Hercules Ceramic Spray Sealant for a quick and easy application with lasting protection.
Follow these steps, and your Exhaust tips will stay as fresh as the rest of your ride!
