Cleaning Wheels with Ceramic Brakes – The Right Way

If you're lucky enough to have ceramic brakes on your ride, you'll soon realize that the cleaning process differs from regular steel brakes.

With bigger brakes comes greater responsibility, which is why we need to be extra careful when cleaning wheels equipped with ceramic brakes.

Ceramic brakes release up to 90% less brake dust than standard steel brakes, meaning your wheels will stay significantly cleaner. Because of this, there's no need—and it can even be harmful—to spray harsh chemicals directly onto the ceramic brakes.

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO CLEANING WHEELS WITH CERAMIC BRAKES

Step 1: Rinse the wheel thoroughly with clean water.

Step 2: Dip your wheel brushes into the bucket with water and neutral shampoo, then gently clean the barrel of the wheel.

Step 3: Use a microfiber cloth or wash mitt to clean the face of the wheel.

Check out our detailed guide on how to properly shampoo the wheels [HERE] and how to clean the tires [HERE].

WHAT ABOUT STUBBORN TAR SPOTS

If you notice any tar spots left on the wheels, you will need a tar remover. Instead of spraying it directly, apply some tar remover to a microfiber towel and gently wipe the affected areas.

Want to go all in? You can remove the wheels for a deep clean—just remember to use wheel lug alignment pins to avoid accidentally chipping the brake discs!

STEP 4: APPLY PROTECTION FOR AN EVEN EASIER CLEAN NEXT TIME

To keep your wheels looking their best, we recommend applying a protection—preferably our ceramic spray sealant, Hercules—which will make future cleaning effortless. In many cases, just a simple rinse with water will be enough!

Now, your wheels should be squeaky clean and ready to hit the track again!
